Kevin Feige Talks About Future Marvel Movie Projects

Black Widow, Hawkeye, and S.H.I.E.L.D. just to name a few...

Marvel has taken Hollywood by storm, and are not slowing down in any way. Right now, every move Marvel makes cinematically is pretty much leading up to The Avengers, but you have to ask, what's after that?

Kevin Feige, Marvel Studio's President of Production has an interview in D23, Disney's Fanclub magazine, where he talks about some future projects featuring current franchise headers, as well as some new characters. Splashpage reports:

“‘X-Men’ was the dawn of the new Marvel cinematic age," said Feige of the publisher’s formative foray into big movies. "‘Iron Man’ was the dawn of the Marvel Studios age and the establishment of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the beginning of that continuity. ‘The Avengers’ is the next big step."

"Once all these characters come together, it's the culmination of all that has come before. It launches a new era and a new time in the history of our films," he continued. "Not only will it be the first film that our new home studio, Disney, will be distributing, but it will also renew each of these characters and launch them into their own franchises, starting with the second film to be released by Disney, ‘Iron Man 3’”

Feige goes on to describe the studio’s plans following the epic team up tentpole film that purports to nail down and laminate Marvel’s cinematic continuity.

“’Thor’ will go off into a new adventure, and ‘Captain America’ will continue to explore the modern world in another film of his own," he confirmed. "We hope that holds true for the characters appearing in that film — Black Widow, Hawkeye, and the spy organization, S.H.I.E.L.D. — all of whom are more than worthy and capable of carrying their own films. And, we've got a lot of other characters we're prepping and getting ready for film debuts: the world of martial arts, these great cosmic space fantasies, Dr Strange, and the magic side of the Marvel Universe. There are many, many stories to be mined."

I'm not too surprised to hear of the Hawkeye, Black Widow, and S.H.I.E.L.D. spin-offs, as those checks pretty much cash themselves. Hawkeye has a long rich history in the Marvel U., and if Jeremy Renner pulls off the Clint Barton that I think he can, I would definitely be down for a Hawkeye franchise.

Black Widow I'm not too sure about, I think that would be better incorporated into a S.H.I.E.L.D movie then giving Scarlett Johansson her own flick. Just saying.

It's what I read between the lines that really interests me. First off he talks about the world of Martial Arts, which obviously leads to thought of either Iron Fist or Shang-Chi as the best possible options. Iron Fist would kick so much ass.

How about the great cosmic space fantasies? That could mean a number of things, such as the Silver Surfer movie that has been rumored for ages, but what about Guardians of the Galaxy? Maybe even Nova, or Adam Warlock. With all the work done in Marvel's cosmic section over the last few years, there is an untold number of stories that can be told.

We already talked about the possibilities of a Dr. Strange movie, but I'm still not seeing what I really want to see here. One comic that I have been dying to see turned into a TV show, a cartoon, a movie, Anything!

The New Warriors.

Straight up, easily one of my favorite team comics of the 90's, generally criticized for it's terrible attempts at restarting the series, of just mocking Night Thrasher for being Night Thrasher. But I don't care! Give me some New Warriors!

What do you think? Excited to see some Avengers Spin-offs? Got any ideas for the other characters he kind of talks about? Who do you want to see get the Marvel Hollywood treatment?

  4. Why don't we just have a fucking Quasar movie starring ME!!! They should do a New Warriors reality styled TV show like in the beginning of Civil War.
