More On The 'Justice League' Movie...

No Bale, No Cavill, and probably no Reynolds...

When news hit last week that Warner Bros was hoping to have a Justice League movie ready to go by 2013, most fans were interested but not too hopeful, as this wasn't our first rodeo. We had already been down the failed JL movie a long time ago, and weren't interested in trudging it up again.

Now with 3 big time hero movies coming out (The Dark Knight Rises, Superman: Man of Steel, and Green Lantern) most fans were left wondering if we were going to see the actors currently portraying these characters in the alleged JL movie. Well, the answer is pretty simple.

No.

We already knew that it was pretty unlikely for Christian Bale to bring his and Nolan's version of Batman to the JL, and Nolan said as much himself. But it looks like the other big 2 won't be included either.

/Film reports on Zack Snyder's Superman and his involvement with the JL, as well as what this could mean for the future of DC movies:

Asked how his Superman film fits in with Justice League, he said,

"It doesn’t. Like what Chris Nolan is doing and what I’m doing with Superman, what they’ll do with Justice League will be it’s own thing with it’s own Batman and own Superman. We’ll be over here with our movie and they kinda get to do it twice which is kinda cool."

Jeff Robinov had previously said that developing a new Wonder Woman film while the TV series might be ongoing shouldn’t be a problem, because there was already the precedent of Smallville being on the air when Superman Returns was released.

So we’re back to the question that was raised when George Miller was doing the aborted Justice League: will audiences be confused or irritated by having the same character played by different actors in feature films? Or is that, as Zack Snyder says, a kind of cool thing, because we’ll get to see multiple takes on the characters? If you don’t like one version, maybe the other will be more appealing. Plus, they could do old-school crossovers and eventually have a movie version of Crisis on Infinite Earths.

A related question is whether WB and DC might use Justice League to launch new film takes on heroes like Wonder Woman and The Flash — if those characters are in the team film, will those actors go on to star in standalone films, or will we really end up with parallel hero franchises from the same studio?

And what about Green Lantern? Splashpage talks to Ryan Reynolds about his involvement:

At the WonderCon convention in San Francisco this past weekend, MTV News sat down with Reynolds and asked him about the recently announced “Justice League” movie and if he might be involved. But don't get your hopes too high, because Reynolds says he hasn't heard any news of his own involvement.

“I hear about it, but I hear about it the same way you do,” Reynolds said about the movie. "You know . . . from a Ouiji board.”

Joking aside, he said he doesn’t know much, other than that it’s in the plans with Warner Brothers. He also said he’s not involved with the project. But when asked about the appeal, the actor had to admit his own excitement: “The fan in me thinks it’s fantastic. Of course you want to see all those iconic characters standing together in one room.”

He went on to say, “I would love to see it. But as far as being involved in it, I have nothing to do with it as of yet.”

Confusing, that's what I would call it. But you know what? That is right on par for what DC Comics does most of the time. It's no big deal for them to have 34 different versions of Batman running around and messing up the universe. DC has been doing that for 75 years, why should it be any different for their movie versions?

The main problem I have with this is that it already didn't work. When George Miller attempted to do the same thing a few years ago it crashed and burned. Granted, a lot has changed in the Hollywood Superhero Market, so chances of them actually succeeding are much higher.

But with Marvel showing that they can indeed make a connected cinematic universe work, why try to go against the grain? Is it just in a bid to be different from Marvel, or do they have a definite plan on making it work this time? I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

What do you think, News Team? Do you want to see multiple versions of these characters on the big screen or do you prefer the Marvel way of doing it?

  1. Holy shit they will never get this rite but you would have to have another batman movie first and a flash, green arrow, wonder woman, and within those movies have black canary, cyborg and even hawk man or some kind of J.S.A. reference and also set up who your big villians are going to be and find out where they could cross over like dark side from superman with the yellow lantern and something huge from batman because that stuff is all from outer space and is a little out of his scope whats he gonna do throw a batterang at the yellow lantern or doomsday so I don't know they are so far behind marvel's universe because the movies they have out now wont cross over so not only do they have to get J.L.A. done but they have to have a couple of movies come out first or they could just do the J.L.movie and have the actors from that become the next franchise actors like if they got Jason Stathom(fist actor i thought of)to be batman in J.L. and then he goes on to do the next solo batman movie kind of backwards from the way marvel set their universe up and just go from there.

  2. Hope they put one out soon though it would be good to finally see a Batman Superman cross over on the big screen we've all been waiting for a justice league movie.I'm sure they wont go as dark as Nolan did but I hope they don't make it to kiddie.Somewhere in between the Darknight and the way did the Ed Norton Hulk movie more based in reality than the plush looking almost cartoony marvel movies not to say i don't like those movies but they are built for that and are good for what they are special effects driven action movies for the whole family to enjoy as to where Id like to see a more plot driven realistic thriller or almost crime drama style like Kent the reporter looking for Batman the vigilante and they run across green arrow within the story being Kent's trying to find batman he does holds him the "crime" happens again they go after a guy it turn out to be g. arrow and he's fighting joker and his men who in turn is working for dark side or check mate. That would be awesome.
