'Preacher' Adaptation Still In The Works

DJ Caruso to direct, and some possible casting choices...

An adaptation of Warren Ellis' Preacher has been rumored about for a long time, circling directors and medias. Most times it's been considered as either a grand trilogy or an HBO type TV series, much like The Walking Dead. Nothing ever solidified enough for any real news, and the only star ever really semi-attached was John Cusack.

But some recent news has the adaptation back on track, with a director, and some rumored casting. Splashpage reports on the director:

DJ Caruso took to Twitter last night with a short and sweet update: "My deal just closed on Preacher. Going back to the dark side and pretty f---ing pumped!"
It doesn't get much more concrete than that.
The rumor mill started churning out "Preacher" talk last week with an anonymous report that Caruso was in talks to direct the adaptation. He spoke a little bit on his love for the comic in an interview posted around the same time, saying "I love the Wild West, man. I really love 'Preacher.' ... I think that’s what would sell me [on taking on a comic book project again after 'Y: The Last Man' fell through]."
As you may have already gathered from his comments above, Caruso was once attached to an adaptation of Brian K. Vaughn's comic book series "Y: The Last Man." That project never quite got off the ground, with Caruso telling MTV News last August that he was still "loosely attached,"though the process was being held up by the studio's desire to condense more of the series into a single movie than the director wanted.
"Preacher" offers a similarly deep story, which presumably means that Caruso will be pushing for a larger treatment. Anyone who has read the Ennis series can probably agree that there's far too much story for one movie to contain.
I'm curios to see what kind of direction Caruso wants to take Preacher, because it's a pretty intense and religious story that does not translate itself easily to other medias.
Caruso also announced some of his thoughts on casting during a recent interview for his movie I am Number Four. SuperHeroHype reports:
In the interview, he mentions that he wants Chris Pine (Star Trek) for the lead role of Jesse Custer, that ShiaLaBeouf is interested in playing Arseface and that Pettyfer could play the Saint of Killers. The casting is, of course, nothing official, though it's interesting to hear what direction Caruso may take.
Chris Pine is an interesting choice, but not one I'm totally behind yet. I do think that Saint of Killers needs to be played by a man a bit further on in his years than Alex Pettyfer. i always envisioned him as a Clint Eastwood type, so the only man left in acting to really fit that bill is Justified's Timothy Olyphant, who would make an awesome Saint of Killers IMO. You can watch the interview at the link above.
How about it News Team? I know you are as excited to see Preacher as I am, so let's hear your casting call. I want to know who you think should play the roles mentioned above. Or the ones not mentioned, like Cassidy, Tulip, or Herr Starr.

  1. I do not think Timothy Olyphant would make a good saint of killers I rather Richard Kiel but his acting skills are not up to par. no Bruce Willis or Tommy Lee Jones the only one who is in a younger bracket that might pull it off is maybe Josh Brolin he has the steel look, the voice and acting chops to pull it off
