Not long after it was announced that Adrianne Palicki would be jumping into the red boots and golden corset of Wonder Woman, the rest of the cast started filling out almost immediately. Seriously, I have like 4 casting announcements to talk about. So let's get started.
Splashpage has the first two characters:
"Cold Case" actress Tracie Thoms (pictured) and "The Good Wife" actor Pedro Pascal were both cast in the series this week, according toDeadline. Thoms will play Etta, the personal assistant to Wonder Woman's alter ego, Diana Prince.
While Pascal's role isn't identified by name in the report, the description seems to match a previously released casting call for the character Ed Indelicato, who serves as Wonder Woman's liaison to the police.
The aforementioned "Wonder Woman" casting call revealed a bit more information about both roles, in fact. Thoms' character was described as "Diana Themyscira’s always cheerful personal assistant. A bit charactery , but real, pretty and effervescent. She is blindly devoted to Diana. She’s her unrelenting cheerleader, with unwavering, unabated support. On the vulnerable side, she sees the humble and sympathetic sides in everyone, including Diana."
As for Pascal's role, Ed Indelicato was described in the casting call as "Stoic and tough, he is a liaison to the police department. Devoted and loyal to Diana, he’s blue collar, a no nonsense kind of guy. A chiseled man who subscribes to the old fashion rules of relationships - men don’t talk much. His job comes first and he wouldn’t make room for the possibility that there is potential romantic relationship with Diana."
Then we go over to Topless Robot, where we get a look at the villain of the series, Elizabeth Hurley:
Elizabeth Hurley has signed on to play Veronica Cale opposite Adrianne Palicki's Wonder Woman; Cale is the evil rival CEO of Cale-Anderson Pharmaceuticals, and is often referred to as WW's Lex Luthor.
Hmmm... Hurley vs. Palicki? You just got yourself some ratings!
The Hollywood Reporter has the last bit of casting news; the Dread Pirate Roberts himself:
Cary Elwes (No Strings Attached, The Princess Bride) is the latest actor to join the cast. He’ll play the CEO of Themyscira Industries — the company owned by Diana Prince/Wonder Woman (Palicki).
And SuperHeroHype has a few pics of Hurley filming and a look at the production logo for Wonder Woman:
I have to say that I have some mixed emotions about this show. I'm definitely excited to see WW on the small screen, I think that's a perfect media for her to be really presented to her fullest. Less pressure to succeed then a feature film, and with the 70's show's history behind it the studios can maybe relax a little.
As for what we could see in the show, I wouldn't hold my breath for an authentic look at WW's classic costume. There's been an ongoing drive lately to make WW relevant in modern society, so I'm thinking that means less of this:
And more of this:
Which isn't totally a bad thing. The new costume certainly fits a TV show better than her classic one, and I think Adrianne would look great in the Jim Lee designed look.
What do you think Action News? Are you excited to see WW hit the small screen again? Sound off in the comment section below!
Wonderwoman can't wear pants. I must protest
ReplyDeleteI know right? I wouldn't count on it tho, although Palicki would probably look dynamite in those short shorts
