'Daredevil' Sequel/Reboot Has A Director!

And a rumored star? Please, no...

Now there has been lots of talk over the past few months concerning the potential reboot of the Daredevil franchise, with nothing really developing.

Well, Fox is running out of time before the movie rights on Daredevil reverts back to Mavel Studios, and an announcement has been made on the director. David Slade, director of Hard Candy30 Days of Night, and The Twilight Saga: Eclipse.

Splashpage reports:

Slade will work on what sources tell Variety is "a continuation of the 'Daredevil' saga," picking up after the events of the 2003 film, which starred Ben Affleck. The sequel-not-reboot status is further confirmed by Deadline, though no further information than that is revealed. A writer has not been hired, but the person will reportedly "work closely" with Slade on developing the story.

Slade got plenty of attention last year for directing the third entry in the "Twilight" series, "Eclipse." He apparently hasn't quite gotten vampires off of the brain either, as he is currently attached to helm "The Last Voyage of the Demeter," which builds a story around a small plot point in Bram Stoker's book "Dracula," the titular bloodsucker's voyage to America aboard the sailing ship Demeter.

If there was ever a hero that needed a reboot/sequel, it's Daredevil. So much potential for a really great film franchise, but it was wasted on the universally panned Daredevil starring Ben Affleck and directed by Mark Steven Johnson'.

So a new take is not a bad idea at all. As for the story behind the movie, The Hollywood Reporter has more:

Sources say the new story line will be the adaptation of the critically acclaimed Frank Miller-written and David Mazzucchelli-illustrated Born Again run of the comic series, which saw the Kingpin of Crime learn the identity of the superhero and begin to systematically destroy his life.

That's a great DD run, and would make a great movie. Even a great title, symbolic of a fresh start for the DD movie franchise.

Daredevil: Born Again

Yea... I like it.

Here's what I don't like. The first rumor to come up about casting for Matt Murdock/Daredevil. Splashpage reports:

Well, it was only a matter of time before this rumor started making the rounds online. And though it's almost certainly nothing more than that — a rumor — it seemed worth noting, if only to offer everyone a place to register their reactions to the idea.
Over at Moviehole, there's the inevitable mention of pairing of recently announced "Daredevil" sequel director David Slade with the high-profile star of his most recent film, "Twilight Saga: Eclipse" lead Robert Pattinson.
Thankfully Pattinson later denied these rumors:

"No, I don't know where that came from at all," said the actor, who didn't even know that there was another "Daredevil" movie in the works.
Yea, dude, I'm sure you didn't. But that does lead us to the obvious question.
Who should play Matt Murdock/ Daredevil?

  2. Steve, No.

The Stath wanted it before, that would suck. Ryan Reynolds would probably do it...

I say maybe Jacob Pitts from JUSTIFIED and THE PACIFIC, or also from THE PACIFIC, as well as NIKITA - Ashton Holmes.
